Najwa Abdullah is currently a PhD candidate in Cultural Studies in Asia at the National University of Singapore. She holds an MA in Critical Media and Cultural Studies from SOAS, University of London, and BA in English Literature from Universitas Indonesia. Her research interests include history of communications, popular culture, critical theory, and postcolonial thoughts. Her PhD research project, “Muslim Aesthetics and Voices on Screen”, explores the ways in which modern media such as cinema transforms the production and transmission of Islamic culture and knowledge in Indonesia today.
