Shuri Mariasih Gietty Tambunan, PhD, is a lecturer at the English Studies Program, Faculty of Humanities Sciences, University of Indonesia (FIB UI), since 2007. While teaching at the English undergraduate program in her alma mater, Gietty also teaches at the Literature postgraduate program with specialization in Cultural Studies. In 2013, Gietty completed his doctoral study at the Department of Cultural Studies, Lingnan University, Hong Kong, having previously obtained a Master of Arts degree at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, in 2010, and a Masters in Humanities Studies at FIB UI in 2007 in Cultural Studies. Her research area is issues of popular culture in Asia such as film, television drama, popular music, culinary practices, and social media. Gietty has also been appointed as a member of the Film Committee of the Jakarta Arts Council for the 2020–2023 period.
